Our mission
Neighbors helping children feel loved, capable, and valued
We are a grassroots group of local volunteers dedicated to ensuring children can access the joy of reading by providing uplifting books and hand-crafted snuggly blankets to kids in need in Williamson County.
Our partner agencies include Georgetown ISD's Literacy First, which provides one-on-one support for students who need help developing foundational reading skills; Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which builds and delivers new beds for kids who don't have beds to sleep in; and the Georgetown Project's NEST Empowerment Center, which provides a safe after-school space for teens.
We accept no monetary gifts. Thanks to the generous people who have given books and blankets, we have served hundreds of children in the Georgetown area.
Children need to grow up with books.
Several studies have shown that the number of books in the home significantly impacts reading scores for children. A book that belongs to a child — not borrowed, not shared — is one of the simplest ways to change that number.
And a blanket? Reading happens where a child feels safe. A snuggly blanket of their own turns a corner of a chair or sofa into that place.
61% of low-income families have no books at home for their children.
70% of Texas fourth graders read below the proficient level.
Our values
Love
To help a child feel they are loved by people in this community.
Growth
To encourage a child to believe they have potential by inspiring an interest in reading.
Encouragement
To aid a child to know they are valued through the uplifting books and handcrafted blankets our donors provide.
No money changes hands — just books and blankets.
- Neighbors give — Books arrive from Amazon. Crafters drop off new, handmade blankets.
- We pair them — Volunteers match each book with a blanket sized for the child's age group.
- Partners deliver — Agencies that already serve these children hand each set directly to a child.
- A child reads — The book and blanket are theirs to keep.
2025 in review
In 2025 we distributed 670 books and 278 blankets.
We also opened two new partnerships:
- Georgetown ISD's Literacy First — led by Hilda Diaz, with one-on-one tutoring for students in kindergarten through third grade. A new book and a hand-crafted blanket went to all 70 students in the program, at six elementary schools.
- Kinship Families — STARRY's program for grandparents and other relatives raising young children: 17 books and 17 blankets.
